چکیده

The photon drag effect of a 2D electron gas is measured using the ps infrared pulses of the wavelength-tunable free electron laser source FELIX. The pulsed photon drag response is found to depend critically on the coupling characteristics of the electrical circuit. We therefore developed an impedance and velocity matched photon drag detector. It consists of a GaAs/ AlGaAs multi quantum well sample which forms an integral part of a microstrip line. A Ge-prism enables incoupling at the critical total reflection angle. This novel transmission line integrated photon drag detector (TIP-detector) generates signal transients below 10 ps rise and fall times. Its continuous spectral response through the intersubband resonance is investigated at room temperature and at T\100 K. An analysis of the spectral lineshape of the photon drag current response yields information about the momentum relaxation times of the electrons in the ground and excited subbands. Direct observation of dynamical screening of the intersubband resonance

We have studied the intersubband resonance of GaAs=AlGaAs multi-quantum well systems by comparing photon drag and absorption spectra. The peak absorption at room temperature is found to be blueshifted from the photon drag resonance by as much as 33 cm−1. We argue that this di erence gives directly the depolarization shift. ? 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Continuous voltage tunability of intersubband relaxation times in coupled SiGe quantum well structures using ultrafast spectroscopy.

We demonstrate continuous voltage control of the nonradiative transition lifetime in semiconductor heterostructures. The results were obtained by picosecond time-resolved experiments on biased SiGe valence band quantum well structures using a free electron laser. By varying the applied voltage, the intersubband hole relaxation times for quantum well structures were varied by a factor of 2 as th...

Single-fiber diffuse optical time-of-flight spectroscopy.

We demonstrate interstitial diffuse optical time-of-fight spectroscopy based on a single fiber for both light delivery and detection. Detector saturation due to the massive short-time reflection is avoided by ultrafast gating of a single photon avalanche diode. We show that the effects of scattering and absorption are separable and that absorption can be assessed independently of scattering. Me...

QCL-based sensors target health and environmental applications

Trace-gas analysis and chemical sensing using quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) has attracted more attention in recent years since most molecules have a unique absorption spectrum in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) region. With many commercial options available, QCLs are ideal candidates for mid-IR spectroscopy because their emission wavelength reaches from the mid-IR to the far-IR with high power effici...

Photon dosimetry based on selective data sampling for the NaI(TL) detector

Radiation detection is essential for determining of radiation dose. Depend on the detector and dosimetry method, detection process is performed in different levels. Pulse counting is the first level of detection. Typically, the output of a radiation detector for determining value of the radiation dose cannot be used directly. Through changing the response function or the readout detector, is tr...
